Travel subsidies
Thanks to our very generous sponsors, PIMS and AARMS, we are able to provide students with travel support this year. Students from PIMS-associated universities in Alberta and BC (UBC, UVic, SFU, UofA, and UCalgary) are eligible for funding from PIMS; students from the Atlantic provinces are eligible for funding from AARMS.
To apply for this funding, please send us an e-mail outlining your financial need. Most departments fund students to attend this conference; we expect that you approach them first before contacting us. In your e-mail, please explain the extent to which you are able to receive funding from your department (or other sources). Also, we would prefer collective applications (ie, one per university), in order to better determine how to disperse funds equitably. Preference may be given to students giving talks. Please note that we will require travel receipts in order to provide reimbursements; once determined (we will try to let you know as soon as possible!), these reimbursements will be arranged at the CUMC.
How to get here
Air: Kingston is conveniently located between three major cities, Toronto (two and half hours), Ottawa (two hours), and Montreal (three hours), each with an international airport. Kingston also has a small airport located about ten minutes from Queen's. The recommended travel route is to fly into Pearson International Airport in Toronto, as Coach Canada operates a bus service running directly between the airport and the John Deutsch University Centre (JDUC) on the Queen's campus. Check out WestJet or Air Canada for flights. From the JDUC, walk south on University Avenue (towards the lake!) and turn right onto Bader Lane. Victoria Hall is the big X-shaped resident on your right.
Rail: Kingston is also conveniently accessible by rail from Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa. Check out Via Rail for schedules and fares. From there, take a cab (inexpensive, if you split a fare) to Victoria Hall.
Bus: Coach Canada operates a bus service to Kingston, from Montreal and Toronto. Take a cab from the bus station to Victoria Hall.
Driving: Take Exit 615, Sir John A. Macdonald, from the 401. Travel south to Union Street, then left (west)
until Albert Street. Turn right onto Albert, then left onto Bader Lane. Victoria Hall will be on your left. If you require
a parking pass ($23 plus tax), please contact us. (Note that you won't need a
vehicle once in Kingston, as everything is within walking distance.)
